I only had a short time to visit Delhi and Agra. Normally it would be a good idea to have Jaipur as part of this trip, however I just didn’t have the time.
I stayed in the Hotel Metro Heights. Which cost roughly 25 USD for a two bedroom room. You can book with them on booking.com.
I booked a tour in Agra and Delhi with the company Sunil Day Tours. They were great. They included roundtrip transportation from Agra as well. The total cost for everything was 125 USD for two people for the two days.
Day 1: First day I spent in Agra because I landed on a Wednesday night and the Taj is closed on Fridays. So I had to drive my first day to Agra. In Agra spend your time enjoying the Taj Mahal and visit Agra Fort.
Day 2: I planned a city tour of old & modern capital of India. I visited Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India. Built by Shah Jahan; Red Fort (from out side), which was also built by Shah Jahan. This massive fort was built from 1638 to 1648; Chandni Chock and I enjoyed a one hour cycle rickshaw ride tour at Old Delhi. I also visited Rajghat, the cremation site of Mahatma Gandhi. Humayus Tomb, Lotus Temple and Qutab Minar and then after all of that, I was dropped off at my hotel around 6:00 PM. At night we just wandered around the streets of Delhi and stumbled upon some great sweet shops!!
The Taj Mahal is the TAJ MAHAL!! It is truly INCREDIBLE. You will find yourself taking wayyyy too many pictures and don’t stop yourself!
Make sure to check out all of the hidden details around and inside the Taj Mahal. There are little secrets everywhere 🙂
If you have time Pop into the Sari shops and have some fun trying them on! Maybe even buy one if you can get the price down low enough. I wasn’t successful at it!
On to Dehli… I really really fell in love with Delhi. It had many older traditional feels to it, and then around certain corners there were new hipster modernistic vibes. I think it really had a perfect balance of both old and new culture. And the sweet shops OMG!! I couldn’t stop eating.
Qutab Minar at sunset is just breathtaking! This is an absolute must-see, don’t miss it!
There is a really lovely place called Hauz Khas village in Delhi. It is a street filled with really nice restaurants and just a cool hipster vibe. You feel that you have almost stepped out of India until you hit the end of the street which leads to Deer Park Lake. This is a beautiful park that is filled with ruins and lays right on a waterbed. Grab some food from the streets of Hauz Khas and picnic in this old park of ruins.
During your rickshaw ride you will pass through the streets of Old Delhi. Stop and walk through the spice shops, buy some flowers, and indulge in the food stalls.
