Turkey- Cappadocia!

Erosion shaped the incredible landscape of the Göreme valley, but thousands of years ago humans carved chambers and tunnel complexes into the soft rock. Beginning in the fourth century A.D., an urbanized—but underground—cultural landscape was created here.

Ancient volcanic eruptions blanketed this region with thick ash, which solidified into a soft rock—called tuff—tens of meters thick. Wind and water went to work on this plateau, leaving only its harder elements behind to form a fairy tale landscape of cones, pillars, pinnacles, mushrooms, and chimneys, which stretch as far as 130 feet (40 meters) into the sky.

Cappadocia is simply magical.  If you love nature and are fascinated by natural formations and incredible landscapes you must visit this area of Turkey!

I recommend renting a car to get around.  There are different areas in Cappadocia with different sceneries.  It is important to visit each one.  It is literally what makes this city magical.  That and of course the hotels located inside of the rock structures! Please make sure you book a hotel that is either located in the rocks or in a fairy dome!

Of course they do have tours that will bring you to each destination for a fee, however I found that with my own car I had more time and freedom to enjoy each place.

A must do is a hot air balloon ride over the incredible landscapes.  I had the opportunity to do hot air ballooning in many other destinations, however I didn’t find the landscape to be enticing enough to fork up the money.  THIS IS THE PLACE TO DO IT!!! It was around two hundred dollars for the experience and honestly I would have paid 500, it was a priceless experience.  Check out the photos below:

This is one destination that I feel I don’t even have to write that much about, because the photos speak for themselves.  I recommend putting this one at the top of your bucket list.  Most people find it to be even more magical in the winter season.  I could see that the hotels and fairy caves would look beautiful that way, however I would not have seen many of the other structures if they were covered in the snow.  Therefore I believe this is place that does need to be visited twice.  Once in summer and once in winter 🙂 Hopefully I will be lucky enough to return.
